REPORT : 24 HOUR RELAY for LIFE

Saturday May 19th -20th 2007 9:a.m. -9a.m.

Dr.Marc and Tanya ran for team Amiee's Angels in honor of family and loved ones at the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" at the Claremont High school. Our Teams Captain was Bernadette Kendall and 1st Lieutenant Marilyn Bidwell (Cancer Survivor). The weather was pleasant for the event, we arrived at the field after a good nights rest and breakfast; Marc's favorite pancakes. This would be our first time running around a track for 24 hours in the attempt to complete 100 miles.

(Marc and I speaking at the opening ceremonies)

This was our way of contributing to the cause of the American Cancer Society. At 9:00 a.m. the master of ceremonies (M.C.) gave us a warm introduction then welcomed us to take podium. We where honored to speak to such an enthused audience.

(Survivors lap)

After the M.C.'s introduced all the morning guests, the cancer survivors took to the track to walk the Survivors Lap. The Claremont High School Jazz band struck up a beat and the survivor lap began. Once the lap was completed the track was opened to all other participant's.

(Marc and Tanya early miles)

We were stationed out of tent #36 were Bernadette and Marilyn kept things in order. They kept the tent stocked with all types of food and drink. Both marathon finishers of GTM Fitness Runners group, Bernie and Marilyn know all to well of what the body needs to complete an attempt such as this. They prepared for us food including: fresh fruit, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, warm beans & rice and especially those delicious hot bowls of soup late at night and the early morning hours. They were on the ball! They made sure we stayed hydrated and fed till the end.

(The Pit Crew)

Additional crew supporters who kept us moving were Tobie Medina and the children. running laps, cheering, keeping us cool by spraying us down with ice water and making trips to the tent for food and drinks that we requested as we walk/ran the laps.

If there were a "most milage for a couple" award as there was at FANS, you two would have been very competitive for it.

Good job to both of you.
